Located along Kauai’s North Shore, Hanalei Bay is surrounded by rain-green mountains and a landscape shaped by the island’s tropical weather. The region is naturally wetter than other parts of Kauai, which is part of what gives it such lush scenery and dramatic character.

For this session, the shifting skies softened the light and brought out the deep colors of the mountains, water, and sand. Instead of creating bright and airy beach portraits, the weather gave us an opportunity to make images with a moodier, more cinematic feeling.
